This is a Phase II level of archaeological investigation near Portage, Wisconsin. The techniques employed in both Phase II and Phase III investigation involve careful horizontal skim shoveling of the soil strata and screening of the soil through one-quarter inch hardware cloth. The skim-shovel technique is similar to medical MRI imagining whereby multiple layers of soil are exposed individually, like snap-shots in time.
